Senior Network Engineer
The Network Operations team supports the studio-wide data network dedicated to the connectivity needs of the DreamWorks Animation SKG. NetOps offers technical leadership and services to our customers with a focus on providing innovative solutions, delivering exceptional customer service, and creating a highly reliable infrastructure that demonstrates value to the artists, engineers, executives, and staff. NetOps works in partnership with other support groups to provide campus-wide services in the areas production, software engineering, technology, enterprise application systems and services, networking and telecommunications, information security, data center operations, and user support.
The Network Engineering Team is responsible forthe design, maintenance, and security of the DreamWorks Animation data network. This includes all network services such as DHCP, DNS, and NTP, as well as IP routing and switching, server load balancing, managing firewall services, VPN services and any Optical transport networks. Network Engineering staff respond to events affecting connectivity or security and provide consulting to other support units throughout the studio.
The successful candidate for the Senior Network Engineer position will be a highly motivated individual with keen problem solving and design skills. As a key member of the Network Engineering team, this position is responsible for the planning, design, operation and monitoring of the studio's multi-campus data network. This individual will oversee the operation of a mission critical, highly-resilient network infrastructure, including all wired network switches, core routers, service provider uplinks, optical backbone, wireless networking hardware, load balancers, firewalls, vpn and related central network services including DNS/DHCP, NTP and IPAM platform. This position will provide network design, installation and operational support for these systems as well as capacity planning, change control, and monitoring functions. This individual must have strong systems administration skills and proficiency with Unix and Linux operating systems. Finally, the successful candidate must possess strong technical and leadership skills and be highly capable of running projects working with a variety of other staff and disciplines.
Qualifications
Six plus (6+) years of related experience
Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred
The successful candidate must have a solid background in network and infrastructure design experience. This position requires demonstrated operations experience with complex routed IP networks, layer two/three switches, advanced routers, firewalls, LAN/WAN networking hardware and protocols. The successful candidate must also have extensive experience with IP data networking knowledge and advanced troubleshooting experience. Current hands-on experience in the configuration management and operation of a variety of switches and routers is essential.
Highly motivated and versatile team player with proven experience providing top-notch customer service; the candidates experience should include previous work in a time-critical environment where they have demonstrated their ability to prioritize and triage tasks; demonstrated skills in project management. Proven experience in mentoring staff and training and/or informal knowledge share for others.
The candidate should have the ability to travel between the DreamWorks Animation campuses as needed to assist in networking related projects and activities. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary to attend vendor training and/or seminars.
Direct working experience in the day-to-day configuration, operation and troubleshooting of a complex enterprise data network.
Solid understanding and working experience with networking technologies and protocols including but not limited to OSI, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, OSPF, BGP, and QOS.
Working knowledge of Juniper security products including VPN and firewalls, F5 load balancers, and wireless networking hardware
Next Generation Data Center design experience and familiarity with Virtualization technologies and network storage protocols.
Experience maximizing IP communications efficiency, including quality of service, policy-based routing, policing and TCP optimization
Working knowledge of Multicast, Unified Messaging, VOIP, and IP based video conferencing and collaboration applications.
Knowledge of various network management applications including Nagios, Zenoss, MRTG, Cacti, and Netflow.
System administration experience with large-scale UNIX or Linux deployments and Microsoft Server and knowledge of the underlying network protocols that support these systems.
Proficient in a scripting language (Perl, Python, Bash) in an environment with source revisioncontrol. Familiarity with programming algorithms for data analysis and automation.
Effective communication skills and experience speaking and presenting in front of small groups.
