How to Apply
Thank you for your interest in DreamWorks Animation’s Outreach Program! Below are our guidelines on how to submit to the Outreach Program you are interested in applying for. Please carefully read over the requirements for your area of focus and submit according to the guidelines outlined below.

Please note that due to the large influx of submissions, we encourage submissions to be delivered digitally to:

Please do not submit original artwork - copies only.

Challenges & Initiatives
(Program not offered in 2013)
To be considered for the Story Initiative:

We are looking for recent graduates in Studio Art, Illustration, Animation, or related fields who can demonstrate the ability to communicate strong storytelling skills through drawing. An ideal candidate should possess excellent draftsmanship in drawing, a solid understanding of perspective and staging, and the ability to communicate narratives through visual clarity in drawing.

Portfolio Submission Opens: Early Spring
Program Start Date: Summer
(Specific dates are determined on a yearly basis)

Application Requirements:
  • Matriculation from a university program in Studio Art, Illustration, Animation, or related field
  • Resume and cover letter
  • Portfolio: story sketches from 2-3 original projects (suggest 10-40 sketches each project), graphic novel excerpts, character sketches and/or designs, life drawings (not to exceed 5), gesture drawings (not to exceed 5), rough sketches or thumbnails, additional personal and/or academic artwork
(Program not offered in 2013)
To be considered for the CFX Initiative:

We are looking for recent graduates in either visual arts or computer graphics who can demonstrate significant work in each field: essentially artists who have some programming or programmers who have an artistic eye for form and motion.

Application Requirements:
  • Matriculation from a university program in Visual Effects, Computer Animation, or Computer Science, with an emphasis on Computer Graphics
  • Resume and cover letter
  • Demo reel (2 minutes or less) and a demo reel breakdown document
  • In addition to hair and cloth simulations, we encourage you to include examples of other artistic works including: drawings, paintings, graphic designs, photographs, etc…as well as the programming languages you know

To be considered for the Effects Challenge:

We are looking for recent graduates in the fields of Computer Science or the Visual Arts who can demonstrate significant work in both fields: essentially programmers who create works of art or artists who can write their own programs. We're looking for people who can imagine cool new ideas by combining disparate forms and approaches and then build beautiful images from them.

Application Requirements:
  • Matriculation from a university program in Visual Effects, Computer Animation, or Computer Science, with an emphasis on Computer Graphics
  • Resume and cover letter (Please note software coding, computer language experience, and math skills)
  • Demo reel (2 minutes or less) with examples of effects-oriented images and a reel breakdown document
  • In addition to your visual effects work, we encourage you to include examples of other artistic works including: drawings, paintings, graphic designs, and photographs
(Program not offered in 2013)
To be considered for the Character TD Challenge:

We are looking for recent graduates in either Computer Science or Visual Arts who can demonstrate significant work in the other field: essentially artists who can code or programmers who have an eye for form and motion. The Character TD Challenge grooms you to tackle challenging technical problems within a group of fellow fun-loving, hard-working Character TDs.

Application Requirements:
  • Matriculation from a university program in Visual Effects, Computer Animation, or Computer Science, with an emphasis on Character Rigging
  • Resume and cover letter (Please note software coding, computer language experience, and math skills)
  • Demo reel (2 minutes or less) with examples of rigging/character setup work
  • We also encourage you to include examples of other artistic works including: drawings, paintings, graphic designs, and photographs
