Do you ever find yourself watching the cream curl into your morning coffee, observing some subtlety in the way it moves? Maybe you have stumbled upon some play of light that is so interesting you stop and stare at it, unconsciously trying to figure out what is happening and how to capture that beautiful thing and its essence.
If this same fascination has pushed you to perform experiments, concoct mathematical formulas, and yearn for an understanding so complete that you could create this vision from “scratch,” in a computer, then the DreamWorks Animation FX Challenge is for you.
An intensive six month training program, it is designed to give recent graduates a firm knowledge base in the concepts critical to the design and animation of Visual FX in CG feature animation. The program covers programming, drawing, rendering, compositing, animation, simulation, and the fine art of taking direction.
Critical to success is not only the commitment to learning new and potentially foreign concepts, but also the ability to work within a production team environment and seek advice from experts.
We are looking for recent graduates in the fields of computer science or the visual arts who can demonstrate significant work in both fields; essentially programmers who create works of art or artists who can write their own programs. We’re looking for people who can imagine cool new ideas by combining disparate forms and approaches and then build beautiful images from them.

- Resume and cover letter (Please note software coding, computer language experience, and math skills)
- Demo reel (2 minutes or less) with examples of effects-oriented images and a reel breakdown document
- In addition to your visual effects work, we encourage you to include examples of other artistic works including: drawings, paintings, graphic designs, and photographs
