The Character FX Initiative is designed to give individuals the unique opportunity to further knowledge in high-end hair simulation, cloth simulation, and character finaling from some of the top artists in the industry. It is a fast-paced, challenging four month program that covers both the art and science of feature film-quality simulations.
We will first cover a broad range of topics including: how an animated film pipeline is organized, interpreting character designs, the principles of animation and how to incorporate them into your simulations, key concepts behind the development and setup of hair and cloth systems, writing custom plug-ins and scripts, as well as techniques to successfully present ideas to both creative and technical colleagues.
We are looking for recent graduates in either visual arts or computer graphics who can demonstrate significant work in each field: essentially artists who have some programming or programmers who have an artistic eye for form and motion.
- Matriculation from a university program in Visual Effects, Computer Animation, or Computer Science, with an emphasis on Computer Graphics
- Resume and cover letter
- Demo reel (2 minutes or less) and a demo reel breakdown document
- In addition to hair and cloth simulations, we encourage you to include examples of other artistic works including: drawings, paintings, graphic designs, photographs, etc…as well as the programming languages you know
